What's different about Dunedin
Dunedin is on the Aurora Energy network. Two things about Dunedin housing show up repeatedly in charger quotes: a large share of older villas and bungalows with original switchboards, and steep sections where the garage sits well below or above the house. Both are priced from your photos rather than found on the day, which is the difference between a fixed price and an estimate.
Areas we cover
Dunedin city · Mosgiel · Port Chalmers · Green Island. If you're just outside that list, send the form anyway and say where you are.
What a standard install covers
- The charger: Supplied new, with the maker's residential warranty in your name.
- Mounting: Fixed to a suitable wall in the spot agreed from your photos: timber-framed, weathertight, ground floor.
- A dedicated circuit: Its own circuit and protection device in your existing switchboard, sized for the charger.
- The cable run: Surface-mounted cable from the switchboard to the charger, up to the length set in your quote.
- Testing and commissioning: The electrician tests the installation and sets the charger up on your phone.
- The Certificate of Compliance: Issued by the registered electrician who did the work, and emailed to you. Your balance is only due after this.
Anything outside that is named and priced in the same quote, before you pay. Switchboard work is the common one, at $1,500 to $3,000 in New Zealand. How to tell if your board needs it.

Questions about Dunedin
How much does EV charger installation cost in Dunedin?
The same as everywhere else in New Zealand: $1,500 to $2,500 for a typical 7.4kW single-phase install, charger included. We don't publish regional multipliers because no source supports them. What actually moves your price is your switchboard, the cable run and whether you're single or three phase. The full cost breakdown.
Do you cover Mosgiel and Port Chalmers?
Yes, both are in the Dunedin service area on the same price list. We're contracting the Otago installer now, so right now you can send photos and join the waitlist.
I've got an old villa with the original switchboard. Can I still get a charger?
Usually yes, with switchboard work priced into the same quote. An old board with ceramic fuses and no RCD protection needs upgrading before a charger circuit goes on it. That's the single most common extra on a New Zealand quote, and it's the reason we want the board photo first.
My garage is down a bank from the house. Does that cost more?
It can. The price follows the cable run: a longer surface run is priced per metre, and a run that has to go underground is trenching. Show the route between the board and the parking spot in your photos and it's in the quote.
Who does the electrical work?
A registered electrician from our contracted installer for the region. They do all the electrical work, test it and issue the Certificate of Compliance in their own name. We quote the job, hold the contract with you and manage it. We are not electricians and hold no electrical registration.
When do I pay?
A $500 deposit only if you accept the price, fully refundable any time before installation starts. The balance is invoiced once the Certificate of Compliance is issued. How it works.
Send your photos. Get one price.
Five phone photos and five minutes. We check them with our installer and email one fixed price for the charger, the install and the Certificate of Compliance. Nothing is charged until you accept it.
