Photos, one fixed price, then the certificate
We quote and manage. A registered electrician from our partner installer does all the electrical work and issues the Certificate of Compliance. You pay a $500 deposit when you accept the price, and the balance only once that certificate is in your hands.
Send photos
Fill in the quote form, then reply to the confirmation email with five photos. About five minutes.
Get one fixed price
Within 2 working days: the charger, the install and the certificate, plus any extras named and priced.
Pay a deposit
$500, only if you accept, and refundable any time before installation starts.
Install, certificate, balance
The electrician fits, tests and certifies. Then we invoice the balance with your deposit credited.
Who does what, plainly
EV Charger Co. is not an electrician and holds no electrical registration.Installing a charger involves prescribed electrical work on your home's fixed wiring, which by law only a registered, licensed electrician may do, and they must issue you a Certificate of Compliance.
We choose and supply the charger, read your photos with the installer, set the price, hold the contract with you and carry the seller's obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act. A registered electrician from our contracted partner installer does every part of the electrical work and signs the certificate.
We check each electrician's registration on the public EWRB register before subcontracting work, and hold the installer's public liability certificate. We'll name the installer here once a subcontract is signed and they've given written permission.
Referrals, if we can't help
If your photos show a job we can't price or serve, we say so. If you tick the referral box we may pass your details to an installer who can, after telling you who they are. We may receive a fee for that referral, and we'll say so at the time.
What we won't do
- Publish a price we can't honour
- Claim an electrical registration we don't hold
- Show reviews, ratings or install counts we don't have
- Charge for an extra that wasn't named and priced first
What's in the price, and what isn't
This definition is the same on every package and on every quote. In the UK, Pod and Octopus publish theirs; no New Zealand operator does, which is exactly why prices move on install day.
Included
- The charger: Supplied new, with the maker's residential warranty in your name.
- Mounting: Fixed to a suitable wall in the spot agreed from your photos: timber-framed, weathertight, ground floor.
- A dedicated circuit: Its own circuit and protection device in your existing switchboard, sized for the charger.
- The cable run: Surface-mounted cable from the switchboard to the charger, up to the length set in your quote.
- Testing and commissioning: The electrician tests the installation and sets the charger up on your phone.
- The Certificate of Compliance: Issued by the registered electrician who did the work, and emailed to you. Your balance is only due after this.
Named and priced separately
- Switchboard work: An older board with no spare capacity, ceramic fuses or no RCD protection needs work before a charger goes on it.
- Extra cable: Anything past the cable length in your quote, priced per metre.
- Brick, block or concrete wall: Harder to fix to and to run cable through than timber framing.
- Trenching: For a detached garage or carport where the cable has to go underground.
- A new or upgraded supply: Going to three phase, or lifting your amperage, involves your lines company and is quoted separately.
Switchboard work is the common one, at $1,500 to $3,000 in New Zealand (Home Charger NZ, reviewed 31 July 2026). Per-item prices are published once our installer's written rates are agreed.

How we work
Are you electricians?
No, and we never say we are. We quote the job, supply the charger, hold the contract with you and manage the work. A registered electrician from our partner installer does every part of the electrical work and issues the Certificate of Compliance in their own name. We hold no electrical registration.
How do you check the installer?
Before any work is subcontracted we check each electrician's registration on the public Electrical Workers Registration Board register and keep the evidence, and we hold a copy of the installer's public liability certificate. We only name an installer or their registration on this site once that's done and they've given written permission.
What if the job turns out to be different from my photos?
Work stops. You see the priced difference in writing before anyone continues. If you accept it, the job goes ahead at the new price. If you don't, your deposit is refunded and you owe nothing for work not done.
What if you can't price my job from photos?
We tell you so in the price email instead of quoting a number we'd have to change. You'll be offered a paid site visit by the installer, or, if you tick the box, an opt-in referral to an installer who does work in your area. We'll tell you who before we pass anything on, and we may receive a fee for that referral.
Why does the balance wait for the certificate?
Because the Certificate of Compliance is the only unambiguous proof the job is finished and tested. Plenty of installers take full payment on the day. We take a deposit, and the rest once the certificate is issued.
Are your prices GST inclusive?
Every price on this site includes GST. Our GST number appears on receipts and invoices once we're registered.
Send your photos. Get one price.
Five phone photos and five minutes. We check them with our installer and email one fixed price for the charger, the install and the Certificate of Compliance. Nothing is charged until you accept it.
